Wow, I had no idea this was going on! It’ll be interesting to find out just how pervasive this practice is and what the legal repercussions are. Of course, this isn’t the first time a company has cut corners, to keep manufacturing costs down and perpetrate fraud on consumers. Hopefully, with the protein supplement companies, fraud won’t be part of the equation. Thanks for a real eye-opener, Will.

As protein (especially whey) has gotten more expensive, and the market ever more cut throat, ways to save some $$$ by companies has taken place. Add some Glycine, and you bump up the protein numbers “on paper” without actually increasing protein. Best way to avoid that is to buy straight protein from trusted companies, and add the extras you want as needed, so you know how much actual protein per serving you’re getting and or companies that list actual amounts of each ingredient so you can easily calculate protein per serving matches up.
