picture of Reyka vodka Even us health/fitness minded types enjoy a good drink now and then, and it’s hard to find one that is not either full of carbs/sugar, or tastes like crap. So, I have been experimenting with a drink that tastes good and keeps the sugars/carbs to a minimum on those occasions I want a drink. Been tweaking it for a while, but I think the recipe if finally done. The ingredients are specific, so no mixing and matching then complain it tastes bad. Recipe goes like so:

2 parts Reyka vodka (it’s from Iceland and the best vodka going)
1 part unsweetened cranberry juice (most have added sugar)
1 part Snapple Diet Ice tea, peach flavor
1 packet of Truvia non caloric sweetener*

Optional but recommended: Lemon or lime wedge squeezed is also a great edition:

Put ice into a shaker, add above ingredients, and shake ’till mixed well, and poor into tall glass. Tastes great, keeps carbs/sugar to a minimum, which also reduces the calorie content also.

Current name is “Sex On The Brink” Or just “Brink Drink.

Try it, I think you’ll like it (assuming you drink alcohol…) and it will save you some carbs/sugar/cals in your diet. Don’t forget, there are no free rides in biology, and the alcohol is a 7 cal per gram sources O cals…

Truvia is not a synthetic sweetener and is made from “natural” ingredients:

You should call it "Glycemic Index" / "Brink's High Index"Because it's a sweet drink, Or "The FLR Slam" for the cutters cheat meal. Have a SLAM!

I will have to try this since cranberry juice and vodka has long been my drink of choice when I have a cocktail.
As for a name, I believe I'd call it a "Commie Pinko."
The color and the use of a vodka (even if you do use Icelandic vodka instead of mother Russia's) make it a natural – plus, drink names have a long history of being somewhat "non-pc"!
I would call it a "Pink Russian", but that's already my name for cranberry and vodka (no one else calls it that that I'm aware of, but I do).
No matter what you call it, I look forward to mixing it up and trying it soon. Sounds yummy.

Can you sub anther juice than cranberry ( I hate cranberry)?

    • Author
      willbrink 13 years ago

John, never heard of anther juice. None sweetened cranberry is low in sugar (for fruit juice) and high in various healthy compounds (anthocyanins, etc), and compliments good vodka. Personally, I would try the recipe as written first, then try another juice if you don't like it, but most other juices will raise the sugar content.

Why on earth do you want to take a drink which is sweet? I like my vodka with chilled water or little ice with green chili on it. The smell of green chili will give you a much pleasant experience then adding a cranberry juice. Try it.

Why on earth would anyone want to mix vodka with water and green chili? Sounds awful….thus, different people have different tastes. 😉

Кранпичка, since I'm learning Russian, I saw this as a worthy exercise. So, that's how the sounds would spell out in Russian. The English transliteration would be Kranpeechka = Cran- peach-ka. 🙂

Perfect! I googled around looking for a low-sugar mixed drink because I was fretting about my
Vodka-Cran sugar intake. (I already use the no-added-sugar cran juice). So I’ll try your conconction. Name? Cran Slam. Nah. Cranonymously Yours. Now, can you dream me up somethin’ with cinnamon to boost metabolism?

This Snapple Diet is sweetened with Aspertame!!! NO THANK YOU!!! (Looks like a fun recipe, but with a different iced tea that does not use artificial sweetner!)

If you’re worried about the tiny amount of Aspertame using that brand, try something else I suppose. Most fears of Aspertame are mythology.

It’s an alcohol drink, so probably not a good choice if one does not drink any alcohol.
