This is a collection of useful whey information you can use to make smart choices when purchasing whey and learn what makes whey a unique protein source, both for active people/athlete, as well as health minded individuals.

Whey protein is one of the most popular protein supplements sold. It’s used by athletes of all kinds and those looking to benefit from this protein, that has literally been used as a medicinal food for thousands of years. However, much confusion over whey abounds. What types are best? Isolates or concentrates? Grass fed organic whey best? Can it help with weight loss? What about cancer and immunity? Where does whey come from and what about compounds within whey (such as lactoferrin) that have their own potential benefits?

Fifty Shades Of Whey will clear up the confusion – using objective science based information vs. marketing and hyperbole so common – to help users of this food supplement make smart decisions on whey proteins.

I would like to have read this, but I couldn’t figure out how to do it. It’s not worth the bother. What’s wrong with a normal PDF?
If you want folks (especially computer illiterate people like me) to read your stuff, make it easier for them, not harder.

If you can’t take the minute or two to download the reader, install, and read, that’s up to you Dennis. Sorry if you feel that’s too much effort for a bunch of solid info I put together free of charge….Epub books (i.e., Kindle, etc) are the future and how books will be read on your comp, phones, tablets etc. Epub books have improved functionality, security (not important for this free report per se, but you get the idea) as well as other benefits, such as use with smart phone, etc, etc.
I’m no computer genius I assure you, and (1) download free reader via links supplied if you don’t already have one (2) download book (3) read book: not exactly rocket science here.
FYI, PDFs are going the way of the DoDo in this role, so this might a great time/place to learn of EPub documents and how to view and read them. 🙂

Hey Will, I wasn’t able to download epub on either my desktop or ipad…….Desktop said “…not compatible”, Ipad just struggled with it ….no can do…
I would like to read the info and will check back later.

Did you try to open with an Epub Reader app? Ipad or any Mac wont just universally open it. I have a Mac, opens fine for me. Download reader supplied in link above, download book, find book using reader, open book, done.

Guess all these people are just dumb, eh Will. Communicate better, criticise less. Heads up everyone.

    • Lynn Johnson 12 years ago

It isn’t that hard. Life keeps changing, and we either keep up or get left in the dirt. PDFs are OK, but there seem to be some advantages to the EPub format, so let’s get with the times.

      • Tom 12 years ago

Will, this instruct may help your readers:
*Follow above instruct per Will, include signing in, password, etc…
*Go to APP store and Download free “Kobo” reader app. Book will be located in library of KOBO reader.
I was trying to find EPub reader in APP store. It is actually called KOBO.

          Will Brink 12 years ago

Tom, it’s even easier then that: First link above for the EPub reader takes you directly to the KOBO app reader page. Hopefully your instructions and mine will do the trick 🙂

Thanks for making this ebook available. I first read your research work at Life Extension Foundation, and I was very impressed. Not only were those article thorough, but some of the most readable. I was also impressed at that time with your articles about Creatine. Simple health information; simple to implement.

Hey Will, I think its great you are sharing this good info. However, can we please have the option of a normal pdf version in the future as I for one don’t want to be made to sign up with kobo just to download your ”free” ebook. thanks

    • Smoky McPot 12 years ago

This is a solid report, but I don’t fancy registering and downloading programs that I don’t really need. Ok, what are the steps?
Follow the Will’s link and push Download EPUB, then register with any email and password (no confirmation email required). After downloading a file convert it to pdf with online converter (I used online-convert). That’s it!

I have downloaded epub and the adobe reader program. I can not open the document with either one. Where can I go for help. I am very interested in reading the report.

Don’t know what to say Doug. You download the actual reader from the link supplied above? Try the KOBO reader at the first link perhaps. I download the Adobe EPub reader, then downloaded the report from Kobo, and opened it with the Adobe reader quickly and easily.

The downloading part took a little figuring out; using the “Instant Reader” option did the trick. I’m glad I persevered because the information was very helpful. Thank you, Will. In all candor, I must say the more I read your stuff the more I realize that a lot of what passes for bodybuilding “supplements” is actually inferior junk.

Mike, what part of the download was difficult? Give us a step by step what you did so others can see how hard/easy it is if you found any particular part confused.
Glad you enjoyed the info. 🙂

      • Mike Derella 12 years ago

I first tried downloading the eReading app for PC. I actually did this twice. The Kobo desktop icon was downloaded, but searching for your book from there was futile. The search box didn’t seem to respond. I went back to the actual website and tried downloading the book, but a Windows dialog box kept popping up saying it cannot open this file, even after downloading the app. I went back to the free apps screen and noticed Kobo Instant Reader. I clicked on that link, then clicked on “Start Reading,” and that was it. It says there’s no software to download, but I also notice that your book is in my Kobo library now when I click on the desktop icon….????

Would the book not be found in your downloads folder?

  6. NJJoe 12 years ago

Here’s another free reader fro PC’s (note: Microsoft .net 4.0 will be included): Once installed, click on the “+” icon top left, and browse to the epub file you downloaded, add it to your library, and read. Hint: Download the epub to an easy to find folder, or create a new folder first.

Thanks for the free info. It was super easy to download 🙂 Way to make it super easy for us!

      Will Brink 12 years ago

Thanx Maribel. I did my best to make it as easy as possible in the context of the format being used, which BTW, is where E Pub is going… 🙂

  8. Mortarman 12 years ago

BTW, for all you iPad users, if you download the ePub with your iPad you can open this ebook with iReader.
And to Will… Will, just from a marketing perspective asking folks to download and install software so they can read your materials is not terribly user friendly. I know it doesn’t seem like a big deal, but for some folks it actually might be. I don’t know if you’re using iAuthor yet or not, but it seems you have at least some familiarity with it, and with publishing to the iTunes bookstore.
I don’t know what kind of distribution impact or burden you might have to deal with by publishing to either iTunes bookstore or Kindle bookstore, but it would seem to me a much more end user friendly way to go given just how many folks are using those devices. Additionally, distributing via Kobo requires either signing up with them, or signing in using Facebook, and quite a lot of folks are resistant to that as well (or maybe it’s just us computer nerds…).
In any case, a few observations, FWIW, and thanks for the Whey report!

Thanx for the comments. I edited out your “other” comments as I have no interest in any communication there and such comments, being the ‘net, are bound to be passed around, etc. I have zero interest in his or anyone’s opinions of my choice to have some fun with the title, and yes, horrible person I am, take advantage of the play on words to drive some traffic to the report. I appreciate your support on that however 🙂
To your other comments, the report is on Amazon/Kindle, but Amazon does not allow one to set price to zero, so it’s set at minimum price they allow, which is .99. There’s a way to get Amazon to allow free stuff, and it involved having it some place else for free, hence this free report on KOBO….Two, IBook, same problem and they require an ISBN for it too boot which costs $$$. Once Amazon sets that report to free (it can’t be done by the author), I’ll let people know via a mailing for sure.
You’ll note, I have several books on those platforms for sale, so you can find my stuff on Kindle, Ibook, Nook, etc, just not this whey report for free at this time.
So, there’s a specific reason it had to be Kobo and yes, it’s not the most user friendly way it could be done, but it’s the only way it could be done as an actual EPub doc.

    Will,
Thanks for taking the time to reply; I got an education on some of the issues with publishing through those two major outlets.
Regardless of some of the (admittedly minor) issues with downloading the report, it’s still worth the time to do so. As always, I appreciate the fact your writing is fully based on the latest available research, and even if it had been a big PITA to download I still would have done so simply due to the quality of your materials.
Thanks again for making this available for free!

Will-FYI, this person is ripping you off: http://www.bestpostworkoutsupplement.com/best-post-workout-supplement/different-types-of-whey-what-whey-protein-is-best

Thanx for the heads up. Yup, total rip off of my materials, which sadly, is common for me. They have neither the knowledge or ability to write such articles and must steal them from others to sell product. etc. I contacted them, and article has been removed.

  11. Li 12 years ago

Thanks for sharing the collection of articles on whey Will and I actually liked the title:)
I received an email from Hugo Rivera, quoting Joel Marion (feel free to edit/remove their names) stating that the latest research shows that whey protein is not only the worst protein to lose weight but it actually causes your body to gain weight because of a spike in insulin levels. Now that goes against your assessment that whey may help in reducing weight.
Another point that I found interesting is regrading whey protein absorption. He states that it can only be absorbed within a 1.5 hours window @ 8g/hour rate i.e. regardless if you consume 30g or 15g scoops all your body is going to absorb is 12g and the balance goes to waste!
Are these claims based on reliable and robust scientific research?
Thanks in advance for your feedback Will
    Li

      Will Brink 12 years ago

“Are these claims based on reliable and robust scientific research?” Nope…. It’s an issue of taking research out of context, and or, simply not truly understanding the research, to market a product. He has a protein product to market.

      • Li 12 years ago

        Thanks for the quick feedback.
So regrading the whey protein supplement absorption, a 40g scoop will be fully absorbed by the human body?

    • Mike Derella 12 years ago

Li, I’m glad you brought up Joel Marion because he sent out an email stating that whey protein is actually worse than eating white bread. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of that. Shortly thereafter, a co-worker on the Paleo diet tried telling me that “excess” whey protein converts to sugar in your body. THEN, my father let me borrow this “magazine” (more like a sales catalog with a couple of articles) from Primal Muscle that had the article/advertisement titled, “The Ugly Truth about Your Favorite Protein.” I’m finding that if someone has a product to sell, they will give you a thousand reasons why their product is the best and all others suck.

    Hi Will,
Please keep up the great work!
Regarding the reader and the awesome free report:
I’m not sure where the disconnect is to read the online e-book. It took me literally 2 click. Yes 2 clicks to start reading. Clicked the image(whey report book) on your site then clicked the read now button on amazon site. Done.
I thought I would give some positive feedback that your intentions to convey this report worked as you intended.
    Cheers!

Good to hear Jack. People will just have to get used to the new format most online ebooks will exist from now on. PDF for books are going the way of the DoDo bird.

Jack at el, report is now on Amazon for free, so if anyone had trouble before, should be much easier with Amazon and it’s free Kindle reader.

  13. Mary 12 years ago

I had already download the reader from Amazon, so this was very easy for me to download this book. This book comes at a great time for me because I have already started a Whey Protein Liquid Diet and have lost a lot of weight very easily. I am using a Whey Protein shake that has only 125 calories per scoop and I add strawberries to the vanilla flavor and cocoa to the chocolate flavor. This is my own program which is similar to the easywayshow diet and I cannot tell enough people who want to lose weight how easy this diet is and you never feel hungry. So Thanks Will, because I was already researching Whey Protein and wondering why this is not considered a wonder product.

Thanks for the Q&A on whey. I tried to get it on KOBO today, 02/21/2014. It’s no longer available on KOBO, so you might want to change that info. on this page.
